Project Log
Over the last couple of weeks in media studies I have looked at a lot of sample and past blogs from other years to improve my own writing about media. I also believe viewing these has helped me to shape my blog as a whole and it now allows me to see how others do it and how I could improve mine. In the first two lessons of media we looked at examplesof blogs which were created by last year’s media students to see how they did it and what they did well. As a class we discussed the positives and negatives of each piece and how we could improve each piece and this then helped me to do my preliminary task as I could improve my task just like the example. I like discussing things in class because it makes me understand what we are doing and then that helps me progress in what I am doing.I liked seeing others preliminary tasks because it helped me to create my own with ease. In the second part of our first double lesson Ms Baker gave us a camera and sent us off in groups to take some of our own pictures for our first task in media which was to get pictures of the school and make a school mag to get a feel of what it is like to be media students. In our group we took a range of pictures so we had a wider selection to choose from when it came to actually doing the task.These included all kinds of different picturessuch as; the school canteen, the school car park, corridors, classrooms, the sixth form common room and the tennis courts. There was no specific picture we had to take but I liked that freedom because it let me do anything I wanted. After we did that we checked through all of the pictures to make sure that we could use them for are magazines. I got the pictures I wanted to make my mag the best it could have been.We sat down at are desks and started to draw our magazines to get an idea of how we could lay them out when it came to making it on the computer. We also used Magazines as examples because they all have good different layouts that could give me inspiration and a kind of guideline to stick to. After that we drew the layout of the home and contents page,and then before I went on the computer I outlined my sketch with a fine liner so it would come up on the scanner. We then went to the computers and used a programme called Adobe InDesign to make the actual thing. This is good and useful software which is easy to use and is great for making magazines in general so I am glad I got to use it. Finally I began to create my magazine and make it look how I wanted it to. The finish product was good and I was overall pleased.

The name of my magazine is Haydon star because it is a catchy
name and incorporates the school name. Also it more modern and it is short and simple
so it gets to the point so it is attracts the target audience of teenagers. I
used a bold fun font also put a picture of the star and not the word star to make
it look different, also to make it seem like an interesting magazine that
people would read instead of a boring magazine. 
The background of my magazine is a picture of part of the school
to show that magazine is not only about the pupils and staff but the building itself.
Underneath the title there is a short sub-title just to introduce you to the
magazine and it is just in a simple but clear colour of white.
Then it carries
on the white font along the side with what the magazine will include so you
know what the magazine is about and what is happening in it. At the bottom of the magazine it says ‘READ EXCLUSIVLEY… head
boy and girl interviews!’ this is in caps and in black not white to capture the
reader’s attention because it is big and exciting news.

My Music Magazine that I am going to
make is going to on Rap/Hip-Hop because that is my favourite genre. Also I feel
that this is an appropriate genre of music because it is a popular and
different to anything else with artists such as Eminem and Jay-Z who are
bringing the genre forward. The Hip-Hop world has been on the rise recently as
a lot of rappers are making new songs and albums and because there are so many
Rap artists that means the new music is always on a confront flow forward. You
have artists such as Drake, Kanye West, Jay-Z and Eminem who have all released
albums this this year; this is the best time for me to bring out a magazine
like mine as the Hip-Hop scene is on the rise to the top. With a lot of new
rappers trying to make it in the Hip-Hop world this is the perfect time to make
unpopular rappers known in the massive music industry, that is why I have gone
for the name ‘NU’ because it is for new artists. The audience that my magazine
will be aimed towards will be 16-25 as most of the artists we will be reviewing
will have some explicit content during their songs and interviews so it will
appeal more to their age rather than younger people. My magazine is looking to
be released on the 1st of Every Month as my survey showed that is what people
prefer. I think a monthly magazine will be a lot better than a weekly one as
there will be more content with much more time for rappers to release new singles
leading to new albums. The magazine will be in a lot more detail than the
weekly one because i have more time to make it and improve it. Due to the more
detail and exclusive images the magazine will be available for £3.99 each month
which I believe to be more reasonable for good quality. The magazine will
hopefully be advertised on all of the major Hip-Hop stations in England which
is appropriate for our magazine. We will also be promoting the magazine on
Social Media sites such as Twitter and Facebook as they are used by a lot of
the Population.
